March 20 in Fishers

Bethany's new speech team competed in its first-ever Indiana High School Forensic Association (IHSFA) sectional speech tournament on Saturday, March 6, and finished 6th out of 13 teams with several students qualifying for the IHSFA State Speech Tournament, on March 20 at Fishers High School.

The top seven competitors in each division qualify for the state speech meet. Senior Tony Miller placed third in broadcasting Senior Joel Fidler took seventh in domestic extemporaneous speaking. Junior David Nussbaum nabbed seventh in humorous interpretation.

Senior Luis Lopez was first alternate (eighth place) in international extemporaneous speaking but will compete at the state tournament because a student who placed ahead of him in the event is unable to take part due to a previous commitment. Additionally, junior Nik Diaz is first alternate in poetry; junior Sharisse Yoder is first alternate in prose interpretation; and junior Ji Eun Han is first alternate in original oratory and second alternate (ninth place) in international extemporaneous speaking.
