Interim Math Teachers

Patricia Oakley and Joshua Weaver

Two people will be teaching high school math on an interim-basis while Renae Yoder is on medical leave for treatment of colorectal cancer.

Patricia Oakley will teach AP Calculus. A graduate of Wheaton College, Patricia earned her PhD in mathematics from Northwestern University. Since 1998 she has been teaching mathematics at Goshen College. In 2010 she served as a reader for the AP Calculus exam. An accomplished teacher, Patricia relates well to students and effectively engages them in learning. She is on sabbatical from Goshen College this year and, as she considered inserting this teaching assignment into the year, she visited Renae and the class several times. Patricia, married to Peter Oakley, worships at Eighth Street Mennonite Church where she serves as church organist.

Joshua Weaver will teach Geomety and Pre-Calculus. In 2006 Josh earned a B.A. in secondary education, with double majors in mathematics and history. Since then he served as a peace worker with MCC in Jordan and completed an M.A. in theological studies at AMBS, as part of which he taught a peace studies practicum at Goshen College and conducted research for the Fourth Freedom Forum. Josh is strong in mathematics, he's enthusiastic, and he loves working with young people. He recently married Julia Gingerich, a Bethany alumnus of 2003. The couple resides in Elkhart and attends Prairie Street Mennonite Church, where he teaches an adult Sunday school class. Josh too has an interest in music, as he plays drums in a local Irish music group.
