2010 Grad Returns to Bethany ...

in

... to volunteer for a day

When John Thornton ('10) came in to Bethany to pick up his 2010 yearbook on Monday (Aug. 16), he asked if he could volunteer for the day--as he still had a few days to prepare for heading to college!

As the word got out about the spur-of-the-moment volunteer, teachers and staff lined up enough tasks that kept John busy the whole day: helping move unused books to storage, hauling computers to new locations, organizing admissions T-shirts, shredding old documents, and assisting in the media center.

John's volunteerism is nothing new to the Bethany community. Always willing to lend a hand, whether as a manager for the basketball team or wherever he saw a need, Thornton received Bethany's 2010 Cup of Kindness Award for exhibiting exceptional kindness in helping other students to understand and learn, treating peers and adults with kindness and respect, and demonstrating concern for those in need of help.
