Musical Theater Workshop

Students direct/perform 12 scenes

For one week this summer 17 students worked intensively to develop their skills in musical theater during Bethany’s fifth annual Musical Theater Workshop. Director Talashia Keim Yoder and her assistants helped students learn the various aspects of musical theater and to further develop their skills in acting, singing, directing, designing, choreographing, dancing, lighting, and auditioning.

Each student participated in performing and directing at least one of the 12 scenes the group produced. At the end of the week the students performed these scenes for family and friends. Since then they have performed some of these scenes in other venues such as the BCS Kickoff and in chapel. The photos and descriptions below are from the four scenes they presented in chapel.

“One More Angel” from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Blake, Josh, and cast portraying Joseph’s brothers and sisters tell their father (played by Jim Buller, guidance counselor and boys basketball coach) that Joseph has been killed by a goat. Scene designed by Jama.

“Millwork” from Working. Jama, Emily, and Sadie provide solos as they provide a glimpse of the lives of people working in a luggage factory. Scene directed by Samantha.

“Hold  On” from The Secret Garden. Martha (played by Taylor Ann) encourages Mary (Maddie) to not give into despair over what life has handed her. Scene directed by Hannah and Maddie.

“100 Easy Ways to Lose a Man” from Wonderful Town. Ruth (portrayed by Anna), an aspiring journalist sings a tongue-in-cheek song about being unlucky in love with tips from fellow actors Ben and Josh. Scene directed by Jesse.
