MS Science Fair
Consumer, environmental awareness, and technology
This first-place project tested how much electricity different vegetables generate.were the categories that middle school students used to create their science fair projects for Tuesday, March 29.
Overall winners in each category included:
- Consumer. Logan Swartzendruber on how greasy different brands of pizza are.
- Environmental Awareness: Austin Hooley on how pH of soil affects plant growth
- Technology: (tie) Tanner Fervida and Cristian Romero on how winds affect gas efficiency in airplanes and Addison Dumford and Tristan Clark on how the weight of bb's affect accuracy.
In addition to the above winners, students experiential research covered a wide range of topics, including:
- correlation between room temperature and the rate a candle burns
- UV light vs. sunlight in growing plants
- comparing stickiness of sugar-free gum with gum with sugar
- effect of different beverages on teeth
- comparing amount of electricity generated from different vegetables
Judges, Priti Patel and Kathy Plank, gave each project a blue, red, or white ribbon. In addition special awards are given for most useful topic, tastiest project, neatest display, most colorful board, and most unique topic. All students in grades 6-8 participated in this event.
