NFL Honors Yeakey

Distinguished Service Key

Michael Yeakey, speech and debate coach at Bethany, received the Distinguished Service Key from the National Forensic League, which notes that Yeakey is one of only 313 coaches out of tens of thousands since 1925 to earn this honor.

The award recognizes those coaches who attain a high level of service by sponsoring new NFL chapters, serving as a district or national officer, hosting or managing tournaments, and speaking or writing about speech education. Yeakey, started Bethany’s speech and debate chapter last school year after serving at Westview for nine years. He currently serves on the district committee for the Northwest District of the NFL and on the state executive committee for the Indiana High School Forensics Association.

J. Scott Wunn, executive director of the NFL, commended Yeakey for his years of service, noting that his achievement “reflects an outstanding commitment to the service of others and betterment of our community.”
